FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

The Harves Rainwater Wall is a patented, modular rainwater harvesting system that mounts flat against any exterior wall or fence. It collects rainfall from your roof via the downspout, filters it, and stores up to 1,000 litres per unit for use in irrigation, cleaning, greywater, and more.
The unit is engineered to operate safely down to −20°C thanks to a built-in 13 cm expansion zone that absorbs ice pressure without cracking. In regions where temperatures regularly drop below −20°C, we recommend draining the unit before the coldest months. Contact us for regional guidance specific to your province.
In most Canadian municipalities, no permit is required for residential rainwater harvesting systems. However, regulations vary by province and municipality. We recommend checking with your local authority before installation. Our team can assist with guidance for your specific location.
Each unit takes approximately 15 minutes to install using the included Z or H profile mounting brackets. The DIY package comes with a full step-by-step guide. Our Installed package includes a certified local technician who handles everything from mounting to downspout connection.
Yes — the Rainwater Wall is fully modular. Units link together through standard 32 mm plumbing connections and operate as a single integrated system. You can start with one unit and add more at any time without replacing or reinstalling anything already in place.
Harvested rainwater is suitable for outdoor irrigation, vehicle washing, surface cleaning, toilet flushing, and industrial uses. It is not intended for drinking without additional treatment. The built-in inlet filter removes leaves, debris, and particulates at the point of collection.
Yes. As the official Canadian distributor, Harves Technology North America ships across Canada. We also serve US customers. Contact us directly for shipping timelines and freight details for your location.
Maintenance is minimal. Clean the inlet filter once or twice per season to remove accumulated leaves and debris. Before winter in colder regions, drain the unit if temperatures regularly drop below −20°C. There are no pumps, electronics, or moving parts in the base system — nothing to service or replace.
The unit is manufactured from UV-stabilized, algae-resistant LLDPE using single-piece rotational moulding — no seams or welds. Under normal conditions, the system is designed for a service life of 20+ years with minimal maintenance.
Yes, the Rainwater Wall can supply non-potable indoor uses such as toilet flushing and laundry. An optional pump kit is available for pressurized delivery. Indoor greywater connections must comply with your local plumbing codes — we recommend working with a licensed plumber for indoor installations.
The Rainwater Wall is designed as an architectural element, not a barrel or tank. It mounts flat against a wall or fence with a slim profile (approximately 17 cm deep). It can be painted to match your exterior and is often mistaken for a decorative wall panel rather than a water storage system.
Several Canadian municipalities and provinces offer rebates, tax credits, or incentive programs for residential rainwater harvesting systems. Programs vary by location — for example, some cities in Alberta and British Columbia offer stormwater credits or green infrastructure rebates. Contact us and we can help you research what's available in your area.
It depends on your roof area and local rainfall. As a rough guide, a 100 m² roof section in Calgary (with ~400 mm annual rainfall) can yield approximately 40,000 litres per year. Even a single unit capturing a fraction of that can supply most residential garden and outdoor cleaning needs through the growing season.
